Kurdophone is a cultural melting pot based in Vienna. 5 musicians from Iran and Austria make up the ensemble. They were awarded the Creole 2 competition for their unique fusion of kurdisch-iranian melodies and western influences. They have played many renowned stages all over Europe such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Rudolstadt-Festival. Kurdophone draws a on an eclectic palette of styles for their musical inspiration, ranging from Kurdish folkmusic to Jazz and contemporary music. The instrumentation of the group is just as multifarious as their cultural background: tunbar (kurdish long-necked lute), kamanche (Iranian spike fiddle), voice, violin, piano, double bass as well as drums and percussion.
