In March 2023 Christine Steger became the first female antidiscrimination lawyer for disabled people. In this capacity she advises and supports people who have experienced discrimination due to their disabilities. Her main focusses are inclusion in education, women and girls with disabilities and intersectional discrimination. She has dedicated the last 20 years of her life to reaching an equal status for disabled people. Starting out as a disability officer at the university of Salzburg, she worked in the state government office, where she focused on disability, inclusion and psychosocial health. In 2018 she was appointed head of the Independent Monitoring Committee on the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
