Teresa Präauer is a writer based in Vienna. She studied German and painting in Salzburg, Berlin, and Vienna and writes novels, short stories, and essays. In 2012, she received the aspekte Literature Prize for the best German-language prose debut for her novel “Für den Herrscher aus Übersee” (For the Ruler from Overseas). Since then, she has written numerous books which have been translated into several languages. Her work has been recognised with awards including the Erich Fried Prize in 2017, the Ben Witter Prize in 2022 and the Bremen Literature Prize in 2024. Teresa Präauer’s readings are literary performances, and according to Denis Scheck: “some of the most intelligent and amusing from the rich buffet of contemporary German-language literature.”
