The cosy, yet elegant atmosphere of the Refugium in Lunz hosts a part of this year’s Matinee, again, in cooperation with the renowned music and literature festival BRÜCKEN from Mürz, directed by Maria Gstättner. Under her curation, we are going to hear Judith Fliedl and Elena Arbonies Jauregui, who play and comment on contemporary works. Thus, they overcome the barrier that often hinders us from engaging with new music: “What if I don't understand it?” No problem, you will experience an introduction by the artists themselves. We feature Asja Valcic with her new album “Inner Voice” – an ode to the cello. Thus, we are building bridges, not only to our friends at the festival across the provincial border, but also between musical worlds and places in Lunz: For the second half of the concert, you have to simply cross the square and walk through the church door, to immerse yourself in the refreshing world of new music.

Asja Valcic
The first solo album is always a milestone. Sometimes, it marks the beginning of the creative journey. Sometimes, it is an opportunity to steer into a new direction, or a chance to explore a new voice. Or, as for Asja Valcic, it is the consolidation of her individual artistic vision. Valicic’ solo cello album is the logical next step on a journey of excellent musicality and mastery. After a remarkable career in classical music, she decided to engage more in improvised music. Asja Valcic has become known both as a performer and composer in Austria and beyond. Her aptly titled new album “Inner Voice” is an ode to the cello. It features moments of energizing passion, as in the flamenco-inspired “Love Story”, but also beautiful moments of fragility, as in the flageolet theme of “Free Spirits”.
